WONKHE - OfS wants universities to define sexual misconduct using the language of courtrooms
It is important that universities act and improve their track record with preventing and dealing with sexual misconduct. The Office for Students (OfS) are proceeding with their new condition of registration to regulate harassment and sexual misconduct, which will come into force on 1 August 2025.
We are glad to see that this is coming in as we ourselves cover all that is included in our Student Harassment & Sexual Assault Instrument so we know how important it is to define what they mean by the language they use, as we know that things like coercive control, and assault while in a relationship are sometimes overlooked and not understood as crimes by some young people. You can read the full article by WONKHE here, looking at the definitions and problems with using legal language.
