ProtectED Reflections – Supporting Estranged Students' Success
On Thursday 29 October 2020 at 11.00 GMT, we held our sixth ProtectED Reflections webinar, Supporting Estranged Students' Success – Improving university policies and services for students without family support
We were very pleased to welcome our speakers for this event:
Helen Arber, Manager at Unite Foundation, providing university scholarship support for care leavers and estranged young people
Jelisha Catnott, Student Support and Welfare Manager at Brunel University London — a ProtectED Founder Member university
Susan Mueller, HE Director of Stand Alone, who support and raise awareness for people estranged from their family.
The event discussed: the support provided by organisations such as Stand Alone and the Unite Foundation; how estranged students navigate the requirement for a rent Guarantor; and the practices and structures universities have developed to support estranged students throughout term-time and holiday periods.
The recording of this event can now be viewed on the ProtectED YouTube chanel (see above). If you have any questions about this event or the issues discussed, please contact Lisa Ravenscroft at l.ravenscroft@protect-ed.org.
