CALL FOR 2021 FOCUS ON STUDENT WELLBEING, SAFETY AND SECURITY

Last year was a tough year in the higher education sector and looking ahead to 2021 Mike Neate, who is a member of our ProtectED Advisory Board and is also Chair of the Police Association of Higher Education Liaison Officers (PAHELO), has made a call for a renewed focus on student safety and wellbeing.

It is always inspiring to see the great work Mike and his team are doing. Keeping students safe off campus has always been a focus for ProtectED; Instrument four of our Code of Practice Student Night Out, focuses on student safety, security and wellbeing on a night out, looking at all the ways a university can support students when they are out and off campus, from crime prevention to working with local businesses to keep everyone safe.

Although this may not be a requirement at the moment, it is something that universities will need to include in their forward planning, as there will be added pressure once students and the public are allowed to go out once more, I suspect with the attitude of making up for lost time.
